Classroom Literacy Program (CLP)

At Literature Matters, we believe every child deserves to see themselves reflected in the books they read. Our Classroom Literacy Program is designed to place diverse, high quality books directly into classrooms while supporting both new and veteran educators.

Through this initiative, Literature Matters provides classroom sets of culturally relevant books, ensuring that every student receives their own copy while teachers receive additional copies to add to their classroom libraries. These books become valuable tools for literacy instruction, classroom discussions, independent reading, and family engagement.

Research shows that access to books is one of the strongest predictors of reading success. Yet many classrooms lack the resources needed to build diverse and inclusive libraries. Our program addresses this gap by equipping educators with meaningful stories that represent a wide range of cultures, experiences, and perspectives.

By investing in classroom libraries, we are investing in students. We are creating opportunities for children to build reading confidence, strengthen comprehension skills, and develop empathy through storytelling. Together, we can ensure that every classroom has the resources needed to inspire the next generation of readers, leaders, and lifelong learners.

Community Book Distribution Program

At Literature Matters, we believe that access to books should never be a barrier to literacy. Our Community Book Distribution Program was created to place high quality, diverse books directly into the hands of children and families throughout the communities we serve.

Many children have limited access to books outside of school. Through this program, Literature Matters distributes free books at literacy festivals, school events, community gatherings, and partner organizations. Each book is carefully selected to reflect diverse cultures, experiences, and perspectives so that children can see themselves represented in the stories they read.

Since our founding, Literature Matters has distributed more than 4,000 books throughout the community, helping children build personal libraries and develop positive reading habits. Research consistently shows that access to books at home contributes to stronger literacy skills, academic success, and increased confidence in reading.

Our Community Book Distribution Program is about more than providing books. It is about creating opportunities for children to discover new worlds, celebrate their identities, and develop a lifelong love of reading. By removing barriers to access and connecting families with meaningful stories, we are helping strengthen literacy outcomes for future generations.
